Nancy Woodson and environmentalist Amy Tyson added paper straw alternatives to the majority of Conifer restaurants in the last several months. Working on educating the Conifer community to stop using plastic straws and plastic in general to eliminate plastics ending up in our precious ocean waters.
An astounding 500 million straws are used in the U.S. every day, and according to a New Plastics Economy report , oceans are expected to contain more plastic than fish by 2050. Since single-use straws are often littered and lost in the recycle process, they make their way into our oceans and endanger precious wildlife. In fact, it’s estimated that more than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles die annually due to plastic pollution.
